Greetings to you all:
1) Lent will soon be upon us. 'Walk for Water' is Bishop Tim's Lent appeal for water harvesting kits to benefit the whole of DMK. The excellently produced leaflet has been sent to every parish. It is now up to us to excite our parishes, schools, youth groups Rotary and Lions Clubs etc., and encourage them to take on the challenge to make a lasting difference to whole communities.
The appeal will be officially launched on Ash Wednesday by Bishop Tim and Neema Mbinhe carrying a bucket of water on her head .One church I know has already committed a 10% tithe of a successful £30,000 appeal in response to Bishop Tim.
If you want more copies of the leaflet please contact Pat English at Church House (0116 248 7424 or email pat.english@leccofe.org)
2) Do get hold of the February News and Views. Liz Jepson has done the partnership proud by including three articles including: a pilot scheme for Christmas gifts, using Kiteto cathedral as a hospital and the Lent appeal.
3) Developments in Kiteto continue at breathtaking speed. On Saturday, I was at a great meeting of recent and potential volunteers. There are plenty of opportunities in KITETO for a wide range of skills from people of all ages and the Machas would welcome one or two GAP year students to help at PASUA and at St Margaret's church.
4) The SOMA (Sharing of Ministries Abroad) 'Rooted in Jesus' Course continues to have a great impact. Rev Isaiah Chambala writes about the groups in the Arusha deanery 'Church members are finding that reading the Bible using the course is transforming their lives, giving them confidence in the Holy Spirit to share with others about their experience in the Lord'.
Best wishes for your Lent walk.
Richard Meredith
